Rink Surface
The rink surface is 75' by 175'. Dressing rooms are available, all floors are covered with rubber matting, and the rink area averages about 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Ice Chalet has served Knoxville since 1962 with public skating, skating school programs, club activity, competitions, and year-round ice access for families and athletes.
The Ice Chalet was built in 1962 to provide recreational ice skating for Knoxville and surrounding communities. In addition to public sessions, we offer a comprehensive skating school program for all ages and abilities, along with skate sales and service.

Gloves are required for preschoolers and are helpful for any skater who gets cold easily. A sweater or jacket is usually comfortable in the rink, and only one pair of thin socks should be worn for the best skate fit.
Food and drinks are available from the Chalet Cafe inside the lobby during busy evenings and weekends. Several restaurants are also within walking distance.
The Ice Chalet was built by Chalet Ice Rinks, Inc. It was one of the first two skating rinks in the South with regularly scheduled public skating hours.
Professional skater Robert Unger moved to Knoxville and established the Robert Unger School of Ice Skating here and in Huntsville, Alabama.
The Ice Chalet hosted one of the earliest ISIA competitions, the Mississippi Valley District Invitational Team Competition, which continues to this day and became the first international ISIA figure skating competition in 1977.
Students in the Robert Unger School first performed Nutcracker On Ice, beginning a holiday tradition that continues each Christmas season.
